Another New Year and a sad Yom Kippur

Paul KleimanPaul Kleiman

Once again the Kehillat Kernow community gathered at the beatiful rural retreat of Roselidden for the Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services. We were blessed with wonderful weather for Rosh Hashana and a beginnings of Storm Amy for Yom Kippur – which seemed in keeping for that particular day and the news from Manchester that greeted it.

About 25 members turned up each day. A lot of familiar faces but also a number of new faces who were made very welcome and who contributed to the services which were led, on Rosh Hashana, by Adam Feldman, Jo Richler and Paul Kleiman (evening service), Hilary Ackland (day service ). Paul was also the official Shofar blower. The Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur services were led by student rabbi Rachel Berkson who facilitated two wonderful, moving services. We were also joined online by a few members. Each evening service commenced with a reading out of the names of the 48 remaining hostages – both living and deceased – and the lighting of a candle for each name.

As is always the case, we joined together in a very tasty communal meal after the the Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur Services.

We cannot write about our Yom Kippur service without mentioning the terrible and tragic events that occured in Manchester just before our service began. Everyone was affected and our thanks to Rachel Berkson for maintaining a service of dignity and integrity under very trying circumstances.

Wishing all our community L’Shana Tova – a good, happy, healthy and, particularly, a peaceful year.

Don’t forget to join us on Sunday 9th November at Threemilestone for our Kehillat Kernow Community Event The People of the Book‘.
