    Highly recommended with commentaries from some of the best minds in Judaism and outside Judaism. Everyone from Anne Frank, Leo Baeck, Primo Levi, Elie Wiesel, Alexande Donat, and Emil Fackenheim. It doesn't get much better than this, other than it would have been better the subject wasn't there to begin with.

The changing position of Jews, their eventual admittance into mainstream British society (legally at least), and the influence of the German and Portuguese movements (via the synagogues) in Jewish lives. Written from an Orthodox viewpoint, it is still a comprehension survey of Anglo-Jewish history I the past 300 years. Newer movements (reform, liberal) are not given much shrift.
